What Newbold Hope Can Offer Parents

Social Media

Our Facebook Groups

Newbold Hope – Family Support Group – is a community especially for parents of children and young people whose behaviour can be physically violent towards others, with a very real risk of injuries. This behaviour can be directed towards members of their immediate family, or towards children or adults at school, or towards strangers or in any other environment.

For parents of children and young people in, or very close to, crisis - This is the group of children and young people who are most likely to be in or near crisis, and this is the group of families who are most likely to have blame, shame and judgement directed towards them.

A welcoming environment where everybody “gets it” - Violent and challenging behaviour is very poorly understood within society or among professionals, and within our Facebook group we have created an emotionally safe space where everyone has been there so that they get it, and when posting, the responses are kind, understanding and full of the wisdom that only lived-experience brings.

If you would like to join, please answer our joining questions as fully as you possibly can.

We understand how difficult it is to open up about these issues to people you don’t know, but we have a responsibility to our existing members to ensure that all newcomers have experienced violent behaviour from their own children. Nobody other than you and the members of our small admin team will see your answers, and all of us on the team are also parents who have lived with this behaviour from our own children.

If you are declined, please don’t be offended. We take great care in trying to keep our group as safe as possible, and in the vast majority of cases it’s simply because the answers to our joining questions were unclear. You are very welcome to ask to join again.

If you wish to join, please ensure that you meet all four of our joining criteria, which are: -

  1. Your child or young person in under the age of 18 when you join.
  2. Your child or young person has a diagnosis of a life-long disability or additional need, or you strongly suspect that this is likely, and you are already seeking an assessment for them.
  3. You are the parent of the child, or a very closely involved family member.
  4. Your child puts others at risk due to their episodes of violent behaviour.

If you are declined, please don’t be offended. We take great care in trying to keep our group as safe as possible, and in the vast majority of cases it’s simply because the answers to our joining questions were unclear. You are very welcome to ask to join again.
